Spinal decompression is a type of herniated disc treatment. This treatment can help alleviate pain caused by sciatica or pinched nerves in the lumbar region of your back. At Heuser Chiropractic Health and Accident Recovery Center, we focus on the recovery, stabilization, and alleviation of pressure and pain in the lower back region.

What is a Herniated Disc?

A herniated disc is a bulge in the soft cushion between two vertebrae in your spine. Discs are made of a gel-like substance and act as shock absorbers for your spine. They can bulge or rupture, which can cause pain and numbness. A herniated disc can press on nerves in your back or neck, causing pain that may radiate down through one or both legs to the foot, along with weakness and stiffness in the lower back, hips, and knees.

Benefits of Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression is a treatment that relieves pressure on the spinal cord by separating the vertebrae, relieving pressure on the nerves. This allows for proper circulation of the surrounding tissue. It also helps restore proper alignment and function within joints around which vertebrae move, allowing muscles that surround these joints to relax so they can bear weight again without strain or tension.

How it Works

Much like the way our chiropractor, Dr. Douglas Devries, D.C., manipulates your spine, spinal decompression tables use gravity and traction to stretch and relieve pressure on the nerves and discs in your back. You’ll be securely placed and anchored onto the table lying face up, knees bent at a 90-degree angle. Then, an operator will invert and extend the table in small increments. This allows for a slow, thorough stretch and alleviation of tension.

Why Choose Heuser Chiropractic Health and Accident Recovery Center?

If you are suffering from herniated discs, or if you have been told that your disc is bulging or protruding, spinal decompression may be the solution to your pain. Dr. Devries and our team have helped many people find relief from chronic back pain and sciatica by using this non-invasive procedure.
