If you have chronic neck or back pain that isn’t getting better after rest, ice, and pain medication, you may need professional treatment. If your back or neck pain is accompanied by other symptoms, you may have a more serious condition than a muscle sprain or strain. At Heuser Chiropractic Health and Accident Recovery Center, our chiropractor Dr. Douglas Devries specializes in diagnosing the underlying cause of chronic pain and dysfunction. He may recommend chiropractic care or spinal decompression in Yuma, AZ, if you have back or neck pain along with specific other symptoms.

What Is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal decompression therapy is a nonsurgical treatment option for back and neck pain. During the treatment, you will lie fully clothed on a motorized traction treatment table. Dr. Devries will attach a harness to you to keep you safe and stable during the treatment. He will control the movement of the table using a special computer program. As the table moves, it will slowly and gently stretch your spine, limbs, muscles, and joints. This can cause herniated or bulging discs to retract back into place and relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve. As your spine shifts back into alignment, oxygen, nutrients, and water can flow freely throughout the spine to promote healing.

What Conditions Are Treated With Spinal Decompression?

Dr. Devries may recommend nonsurgical spinal decompression to treat:

  • Back or neck pain
  • Sciatica
  • Bulging or herniated discs
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Injured spinal nerves
  • Pinched or compressed nerves
  • Bone spurs
  • Arthritis of the spine
  • Worn spinal joints

When Should I Visit a Chiropractor for Spinal Decompression?

You should visit a chiropractor for spinal decompression therapy if you have back or neck pain that has lasted more than a week and has not responded to rest, ice, or pain medication. You should also consider spinal decompression or chiropractic care if you have pain and other symptoms, like numbness or tingling, burning or itching pain, fever, red skin, nausea or vomiting, or bowel or bladder issues.
